Look beyond the measured area
Include the shape of the room, door openings, skirtings and adjoining materials in your photos. A simple area measurement will not show the cuts, transitions and access needed to complete the job.
Discuss surface preparation
Ask how the existing covering will be removed and what preparation is allowed for. Cracking or movement needs assessment before a new finish is selected; covering a symptom can leave the underlying problem unresolved.
Plan for furniture and access
For an occupied home or workplace, agree which spaces must be cleared and how people will move around the work. Staged installation can affect the programme, and the completed floor may need a period without traffic.
What to discuss in your scope
- Interior floor tiling enquiries
- Kitchen splashbacks and feature walls
- Laundry floor and wall finishes
- Transitions, trims and layout planning
What can affect the quote?
A useful quote is based on the condition of the property and the agreed work. These details can make a difference:
- Existing flooring, wall finish and preparation
- Tile layout, room shape and transitions
- Furniture removal and staged occupation

Can new tiles be laid over old tiles?
Sometimes a specified system allows it, but the existing surface, bond, level changes and intended use need assessment first. It is not an automatic way to avoid preparation.
What information helps with a splashback quote?
Send a straight-on photo, approximate width and height, tile details, and the locations of cabinetry, windows and fittings. Identify any removal work as well.
